SPARTA   :::    Threes

As if 2002 gem Wiretap Scars is not reason enough to raise a memorable eyebrow, a more seasoned Sparta have re-surfaced with Threes. Like most rebirths, Threes has its moments of melancholy contrasted with joyousness and melodic release. Singer Jim Ward says that the songs drove the sound, and he approached crafting them the way a literary writer might pen a short story. “We talked a lot about character, and about where the song was going,” he says.
Latest Update: "Taking Back Control" will be featured on the soundtrack of the upcoming thriller The Invisible, and to celebrate, the band has released an updated version of the video featuring clips from the film. Check it out here.

Radio Rebellion Tour
The Avalon  •  Hollywood, CA
November 4, 2006

by Robert Fayette

The Avalon, formerly the Palace Theatre, in Hollywood, California is still quite the venue to see a hardcore show. This before the first one that I had been to in awhile made it even more special. The kids had already been lined up outside the venue by the time I arrived at 4:30pm.

Bless The Fall opened the show to an almost empty house. They played a flawless set highlighted by lead singer Craig's screams that were similar to those of As I Lay Dying frontman Tim Lambesis.

By the time Misery Signals set up their gear on stage it was apparent that the crowd was pumped. The Milwakee five-piece worked the crowd to their full potential highlighted by a set that featured songs "The Stinging Rain", "Anchor", and "The Failsafe". Karl Schubach clearly proved why he was chosen as the new singer for this band.

Fear Before The March Of Flames were originally scheduled to play next but had to cancel due an injury suffered the prior night in San Diego. Lead singer Dave's cheek was busted open from an accidental on-stage accident when the bass guitar hit him in the face and one of the tuning knobs went through the side of his face. Ouch.

Exceeding all my expectations, Between The Buried and Me delivered an amazing set backed by an intense light show. The kids went absolutely nuts for them the entire time. Most memorable was a cover of the Queen song "Bicycle Race" off their recent covers album The Anatomy Of.

Finally it was time for headliner Norma Jean to hit the stage with a stage set complete with blinding lights, two towers of amps, and two drum kits. Loads of energy from guitarist Scottie Henry and bassist Jake Schultz kept the fans wanting more. And they got it. With a set that included songs from their very first album Bless The Martyr, Kiss The Child all the way up to their most recent release Redeemer, the loyal crowd was rewarded with not only one but two encores.

Radio Rebellion is one tour not to miss and will not leave you disappointed. It wraps up December 2nd in Atlanta, GA.

Nintendo Fusion Sandwich

Plain White T's frontman Tom Higgenson gets sandwiched by the crush of adoring fans after their set on the NYC stop of the Nintendo Fusion Tour at Roseland Ballroom. The irrestible band behind the hit "Hate (I Really Don't Like You)" finishes out the year on tour with Panic! At the Disco then heads to the UK with Hellogoodbye in early 2007.

Norma Jean: Redeemer

Coming off a successful stint on Ozzfest, Norma Jean return to the club scene in the inaugural Radio Rebellion tour. The Atlanta, GA five-piece prove why they are currently one of the top bands out today. With an elaborate stage and light show in addition to a second drummer, it is clear why this tour is not one to miss. Prior to tonight's show, I sat down with guitarist Scottie Henry to discuss their new album Redeemer, what it was like to work with legendary producer Ross Robinson and even managed to find out why all the sets were moved up that night.
